# Biweekly or Monthly House Cleaning: Which Is Better Value?

For most lived-in homes, biweekly house cleaning is the better value, because each visit stays maintenance instead of catch-up. Monthly works for small, lightly used homes that someone keeps tidy in between.

For most lived-in homes, biweekly house cleaning is the better value. Two weeks isn't long enough for kitchens and bathrooms to really build up, so every visit stays maintenance instead of catch-up. Monthly cleaning works for small, lightly used homes where someone wipes down the kitchen and bathrooms in between. House cleaning starts at $165, and weekly, biweekly and monthly plans are all priced below the one-time rate.

## What builds up between visits?

The interval matters because buildup isn't linear. A week or two of ordinary life leaves a light layer that lifts in one pass. A month leaves layers that have to be worked.

**Kitchen grease** is the clearest example. Cooking film settles on the stovetop, the range hood and the cabinet fronts nearest the stove, and it gets tackier as it grabs dust. In the bathroom, **shower film** builds the same way: soap residue and minerals from the water dry onto glass and fixtures after every shower, and after a month that film is on its way to becoming scale.

Then there's **valley dust**. Sacramento-area homes pull in a lot of fine dust, and it's back within days. (We explained why in [why homes here feel dusty again three days after a clean](/blog/why-sacramento-area-homes-feel-dusty-again-three-days-after-a-clean).) Add **pet hair**, which piles up along baseboards, under furniture and in rugs faster than most people notice.

On a biweekly plan, the crew mostly clears what arrived since last time. On a monthly plan, a bigger slice of each visit goes to getting the home back to where it was — and that slice comes out of the time for everything else on the checklist.

## When is monthly cleaning enough?

Monthly holds up well when most of these are true:

- A small household, with no pets and no young children.
- Someone wipes the kitchen counters, the bathroom sink and the toilet every week between visits.
- Cooking is light, or the range hood actually gets switched on.
- The home sits empty a lot, for travel or long work weeks.

It falls apart when the home is used hard. Shedding pets, kids, daily cooking, or a household that would rather do zero cleaning between visits all push the same way. In those homes, a monthly crew walks into a backlog every single time.

## How do the recurring cleaning plans compare?

| Plan | What each visit faces | Works best for |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly | A light layer; the home rarely looks lived-in for long | Pets, young children, daily cooking, dust-sensitive households |
| Biweekly | A normal layer; still maintenance, not recovery | Most occupied family homes |
| Monthly | Visible film in kitchens and bathrooms, dust on every flat surface | Small, lightly used homes kept tidy between visits |
| One-time | Whatever has built up, at the standard rate | Before guests, after a busy stretch, or to try a crew |

Per month, biweekly costs more than monthly. Obviously — there are more visits. Per visit, though, it's usually the better deal, because the crew spends its time keeping a clean home clean instead of rescuing one. That's the trade you're actually weighing.

## Does a longer interval mean a longer visit?

Generally, yes. More buildup takes more time. Across 205 house-cleaning visits in our job logs, the median visit ran 4.5 hours, and the middle half fell between 3 and 6 hours; larger homes and long-neglected ones take longer. Our logs aren't split by plan, though, so we can't hand you a separate figure for biweekly versus monthly homes, and we'd rather not guess. What drives the hours is covered in [how long a professional house cleaning takes](/blog/how-long-does-house-cleaning-take).

## Do you need a deep clean before starting a plan?

Usually not. The first visit of a recurring plan brings the home up to a baseline, and if it needs extra time to get there, that first visit is quoted separately. After that the lower recurring rate kicks in.

A separate [deep clean](/services/deep-cleaning), from $200, makes sense first when the home has gone a year or more without professional cleaning. It goes after the things a regular visit doesn't touch: baseboards, vent covers, grout, scale on shower glass, ceiling fan blades. From there, most homes need a deep clean once or twice a year on top of regular cleaning. See [how often to deep clean](/blog/how-often-deep-clean-home), and also [when you can skip one](/blog/when-you-do-not-need-a-deep-clean).

## What else changes with recurring cleaning services?

Two practical things.

First, the crew that starts with a regular client usually stays with that home, so they learn where things live and what you care about. It isn't guaranteed (holidays and sick days happen), which is exactly why every crew works from the same checklist and your notes.

Second, the scheduling terms. Rescheduling is free with at least 48 hours' notice; with less notice, the deposit may be kept. On a biweekly plan you'll move a visit now and then, so it's worth knowing that going in.

## So should you pick biweekly or monthly?

Busy home? Start biweekly. If it's small, quiet and kept tidy, monthly can hold up, especially paired with a deep clean once or twice a year. Not sure which camp you're in — in Granite Bay or anywhere else we work — just tell us how the home is used when you ask for a quote, and the recommendation follows from that. See what a visit covers on the [house cleaning](/services/house-cleaning) page, or send a request through the [contact page](/contact).
