A regular bathroom clean handles the toilet, tub, shower, mirrors and fixtures. A deep clean goes after what builds up slowly: grout scrubbed by hand, hard-water scale taken off shower glass, faucets and shower heads, plus the baseboards, door frames and vent covers that a weekly visit only passes by. Most bathrooms need that deep pass once or twice a year. Both levels of professional bathroom cleaning come with our deep cleaning, from $200, which includes everything on the regular checklist.
What is the difference between a regular and a deep bathroom clean?
| Area | Regular clean | Deep clean adds |
|---|---|---|
| Toilet | Bowl, seat, outside of the tank | Base, hinges and the floor behind it |
| Shower and tub | Surfaces cleaned and rinsed | Grout scrubbed, scale removed from glass and fixtures |
| Faucets and shower heads | Wiped and shined | Descaled |
| Mirrors and counters | Cleaned | Same, plus switch plates and outlet covers |
| Trim and vents | Not usually | Baseboards, door frames and vent covers by hand |
| Light fixtures | Not usually | Within ladder reach |
The middle column keeps a bathroom pleasant week to week. The right-hand one is what stops it from slowly going dull.
How do you deep clean a bathroom yourself?
- Work top to bottom. Vent cover and light fixture first, floor last, so dust falls onto what you have not cleaned yet.
- Apply products and let them sit. Get the tub and shower cleaner on first, then do the mirror and counter while it works; the waiting does part of the scrubbing for you.
- Scrub the grout along the lines with a narrow, stiff brush. Our post on why grout turns dark covers what lifts and what will not.
- Descale the glass and fixtures. Scale is mineral, not dirt, so soap will not touch it. Here is how to remove hard-water scale from shower glass.
- Do the toilet last, inside and out, with its own cloth or brush, the base and the floor around it included.
- Ventilate. Run the fan or open a window while you work, and never mix bleach with ammonia or acids.
How often does a bathroom need a deep clean?
With regular cleaning in between, once or twice a year covers most bathrooms. Sacramento-area bathrooms often need it sooner, and hard water is why: scale starts building on glass and fixtures within weeks of a clean, and once it is thick it takes real time to remove.
The tell is a shower that stays cloudy after a normal wipe-down. That is the clearest sign the deep pass is due.
What does a bathroom cleaning service not cover?
- Mold remediation. Surface mildew on grout and caulk comes off in a deep clean. Mold growing inside walls or under flooring is remediation, which is a different trade entirely.
- Repairs. Cracked grout, failing caulk and loose tiles are repair work. We clean, and we point them out.
- Permanently etched glass. Scale left for years can etch the glass itself. Cleaning removes the scale, but it cannot undo the etching.
What does it look like in practice?
One example is a kitchen and bathroom deep clean in Lincoln for a 55+ homeowner who could no longer reach the high and low spots. Another: the grout and soap film cleared out of the bathrooms in a 1960s ranch in Carmichael. And when tile needs more than a deep clean can give it, there is a dedicated tile and grout cleaning visit.
How should you schedule bathroom deep cleaning?
Keep the toilet, tub and mirrors on the regular schedule. Then plan a deep pass for grout, scale, trim and vents once or twice a year, sooner if your water is hard. Tell us how many bathrooms you have in a short request through the contact page, and a person will reply with a starting price.
