An organizing visit takes a walk-in closet, pantry or kitchen and sorts it into a system that fits how you actually use the space. It runs on decisions (what stays, where it lives, what leaves) and every one of them stays with you. Most house cleaning does not include organizing; ours lists organizing cluttered storage as outside its scope, since it wipes surfaces and leaves things where they are. Home organizing is a separate visit, billed at $60 per hour for each person on site.
Do house cleaners organize closets?
Usually not. Good to know before you book.
A cleaning visit is built around a checklist of surfaces and a fixed block of time. Organizing a closet is a different animal: everything comes out, each item gets a decision made with you, and whatever is left goes back in a new order. Different work, different clock. If you want both, book two visits, organizing first and cleaning after, so nobody is wiping shelves that are about to be emptied.
How does an organizing visit work?
- Agree on the hours. You describe the spaces, and we settle the scope and the hours up front, say two people for five hours.
- Walk the space together. We go through it with you and decide together what gets donated or thrown out. That call is yours. We never clear out a closet and quietly toss what we think you do not need.
- Sort into a system. Items get grouped by type and use. What you reach for every day lands within easy reach; the less-used things move higher or further back.
- Containers only if they help. If bins, baskets or shelving would make the system work, we tell you what is needed first. Nothing is bought until you have signed off and paid for it up front, so supplies never turn up as a surprise charge.
How do you organize a walk-in closet?
Empty it. Completely. You cannot see what a closet holds while it is still full, and half-emptying it just shuffles the pile.
Then sort by how often you wear things, not only by type, because daily clothes belong at eye level and arm's reach. Use the height: long items on one rod, doubled rods for shirts and folded pieces, and the top shelf for what comes down a few times a year. Shoes and bags need a fixed place, since a closet floor fills up with whatever has none. And leave some empty space. A closet packed to the edge on day one will not stay organized for long, so we would rather see a little slack on every shelf.
Want a custom built-in closet system? That is carpentry and installation, a job for a closet company. Our walk-in closet organization works with the closet you have, plus any organizers you approve.
How do you organize a walk-in pantry?
- Group by use: baking, breakfast, snacks, canned goods, spare paper goods.
- Give the middle shelves to what you cook with most. Heavy items go low, rarely used ones high.
- Move loose items into containers so the shelves stay tidy and you can see everything at a glance.
- Check dates as you go, and declutter the fridge the same way you would any other shelf.
That is how a kitchen and pantry in Clarksburg went from having no fixed place for anything to one system covering both spaces.
What does closet and pantry organizing cost?
It is billed by the hour, per person on site, at $60 per hour each. That is the whole formula. If the agreed scope is two people for five hours, that is what gets billed: five hours each at $60 per hour, not a project estimate that drifts upward afterward.
A single walk-in closet often takes a few hours. A pantry and kitchen together, or a garage, run longer; see how a Folsom two-car garage and a packed storage room in Placerville came out.
Where do you organize closets and pantries?
Across Sacramento, Roseville, Elk Grove, Davis, Galt, Auburn and Placerville, plus the communities around them, including El Dorado Hills, Folsom, Rancho Cordova, Orangevale and Lincoln.
What should you do before an organizing visit?
Book organizing and cleaning as two visits, organizing first. Come ready to make the keep-or-go calls yourself. Hold off on buying containers until the system is planned (buying them first is the most common false start we see), and leave room to spare. If you are mostly getting rid of things rather than keeping them, a cleanout is the faster job. Otherwise, list the spaces you want organized in a short request through the contact page, and a person will reply with a starting price.
