New builds and near-campus remodels
Davis produces two kinds of post-construction jobs. Most of the ground-up new construction is in the newer neighborhoods, Mace Ranch and North Davis Farms, where a finished house is empty, dusty from top to bottom and covered in protective film.
Near the Downtown Core and University Avenue, the work is more often a renovation inside older housing. The rest of the home may be lived in, and dust from the remodel has spread into rooms that were not part of the job. Those visits cover more surfaces outside the work area.
In both cases the dust load sets the hours. Field dust from the farmland around Davis does not help in the dry months: it comes in through open doors during the build and settles with the construction dust. The crew does a full clean first, then returns the next day for a second floor pass once the airborne dust has landed.
