On a sheltered suburban street, neighboring houses and fences take some of the dust. Elverta's lots are larger and more open, so dry-season valley dust reaches the glass more directly, and it builds up on exterior panes, screens and tracks faster than it would closer to the city.
The method doesn't change with location: exterior glass is washed from the ground with a water-fed pole, and the inside is done by hand.
