Overview
Moss in the shade
Heavy moss is removed by brush, the whole roof is treated so lichen and small moss die at the root, and we come back two to three weeks later to check.
Citrus Heights has some of the heaviest tree cover in the metro, and shade is what moss needs. Slopes that see the least sun stay damp longest, and on older homes that have sat under the same trees for decades, growth is well established by the time anyone calls.
This year we did that job on a single-story house here with moss on its shaded slope. We checked the roofing material first, covered the plants, the front of the house and the drainage runs, took the loose growth off by hand and treated the affected areas without a pressure washer. The owners got photos of the treated sections and notes on what to watch.
Shade makes regrowth more likely than on a sunny roof, which is why the follow-up visit is worth keeping here.

Local notes
Working in Citrus Heights.
Original ranch homes
Single-story houses on mature lots, many with their first kitchens and bathrooms. Long-time owners live next door to a steady stream of renters.
Old finishes, heavy shade
Older tile, grout and fixtures need a careful hand. The canopy drops leaves and debris on porches, tracks and sills in every season.
Leaves, then dust
Leaf drop peaks in autumn. Long dry summers push valley dust in through ground-level windows and sliders.

What clients say about Expert Home Cleaners.
The crew was right on time and did a thorough job, leaving everything in my place looking great and taking good care not to disturb anything. Marianna comes every Monday and turns our mess into a home—I wouldn’t give her up for the world.
Very excellent service. The team was on time and easy to reach, and they did a great job on the windows. Friendly crew all around.
The cleaner paid close attention to detail and made sure to focus on the specific areas I asked about. They were on time, friendly, and easy to communicate with throughout the process.
Alina cleans my house every two weeks and does an excellent job. Always. I appreciate the clear communication and consistency. Highly recommend!
My house is absolutely beautiful. I’ve had difficulty being able to clean it to the level that I’m used to and so to have her come in yesterday and just do everything perfectly put me at such a sense of ease I can’t recommend this service any higher
Such a lovely experience . I do not live in the city where the cleaning services were performed. Yaryna was kind, easy to communicate with, clear and responded promptly. The work was outstanding as seen via pictures. Highly recommended this company. Thank you!
Amazing Customer service and my house is perfectly clean! Could not recommend more!
Natalia showed up on time to our cleaning appointment. She was extremely respectful, soft demeanor, and very kind. It's always difficult trusting strangers in our homes, but I felt completely comfortable with having her here. She did an amazing job cleaning, and I will definitely request her return. Thank you so much!
The ladies were very friendly, patient, and hardworking! They did a great job and worked hard to get everything done. I really appreciate their effort and would definitely recommend them!

(279) 300-0830With all the shade from our trees, is moss just going to come back right away?
Not right away, but shade does make regrowth more likely over time than on a sunny roof. That is part of why we return two to three weeks later to check the treatment took.
Our roof hasn't been touched in years under all these trees. Is that going to be a bigger job?
Possibly. Heavy, established moss under long-term shade generally takes more brushing than a roof that has been looked after more regularly. We look at what is growing up there before giving a price.
Why not just pressure wash the roof?
Because it strips the protective granules off shingles and damages soft roofing. Shaded Citrus Heights roofs can carry thick moss, and brushing plus a treatment removes it without shortening the roof's life.
