Rio Linda's lots are open and less tree-covered than the heavily canopied parts of the metro, so many roofs here get enough sun that moss struggles to take hold. The exceptions are the vintage ranch homes with mature trees on the property. Under that shade, moss can grow on the covered sections of the roof, and flat lichen patches can spread.
